West Nile virus, a mosquito-borne disease, has always had a presence in New Jersey. In 2019, there were 8 confirmed cases. In 2018, the CDC reports there were 61 confirmed cases. Today, an article posted on NJ.com, has reported that a resident from Essex County, New Jersey and another from Monmouth County have both been infected with the West Nile virus this month.
While there have only been two confirmed cases so far this year in New Jersey, it is imperative that residents of the Garden state continue to be vigilant in the fight against mosquitoes. The colder weather is still several weeks away and biting mosquitoes will continue to be an annoyance and health risk until then.
