What do pavement ants look like?
Adult pavement ants can range in color from dark brown to black; workers grow to about 1/8th of an inch in length, the winged reproductive members are slightly larger than the workers.
This type of ant’s head and thorax have grooved parallel lines and the thorax has a pair of small spines extending out backwards from the rear end.
Are pavement ants dangerous?
Pavement ants do have the ability to sting, but are not considered to be a dangerous ants. They are very docile and would rather avoid any sort of conflict than fight back by stinging.
Pavement ants are considered nuisance pests, inside of homes they will contaminate food sources, and should be eliminated as quickly as possible.
Why do I have a pavement ant problem?
Pavement ants are typically found living outside, nesting in the cracks of driveways, under and along sidewalks, under concrete slabs, and under foundations. They may enter into homes through cracks found in a foundation or concrete slab; pavement ants can become quite problematic in homes with dirt basements.
Pavement ants generally find their way into homes while foraging for food like sweets, fruits, seeds, cheese, grease, dead insects-you name it they will probably give it a try, they are not picky when it comes to food sources!

In order to completely eliminate a pavement ant infestation all the nesting sites need to be found and treated, something that the trained eye of a professional can accomplish. - Seal any cracks or crevices that are found in your home’s foundation or exterior walls.
- Install door sweeps underneath of all exterior doors and caulks spaces found around windows and doors.
- Store food in sealed containers or in the refrigerator.
- Clean up crumbs and spills quickly.
- Don't leave dirty dishes in the sink overnight.
- Clean grease and food debris behind, under, and on the sides of the refrigerator, oven, and other kitchen appliances.
